Hi and Welcome to my stop on the
If you’re not sure what’s going on, let me explain alittle. Sly Fox Fabrics sponsored this really fun blog tour and contest where their Facebook group members submitted inspiration outfits for 3 sewing bloggers (Katie Grim of Made by Kates, Chris M. Shapiro of Sew Journs and myself) to recreate 3 pieces each from the top 30.

FIRST UP~
The Ruched Tunic
This one is in 3rd place. I’m so glad I had the chance to make it because honestly I wasn’t feeling it but with some fabric changes, I completely changed my mind.
I used The Astoria from Peek-A- Boo pattern shop which is identical to the tunic. I really didn’t have to do much here.
How I got the look
- I cut the fitted view. Cutting between tunic and mid-thigh length. It kept riding up, so it looks a lot shorter.
- I extended the ruching about 4″ up past the original point on the bust.
- I didn’t use any bands for the sleeves and bottom hem.
- Lengthen the sleeves and hemmed them 1/2″.
Fabric
I switched up the plaid with some floral, using baby french terry in heather blush for the main and accenting it with the Reverie navy floral baby french terry.
I’m surprised how much I love it! I may even make another!
Twisted Sweater
It is definitely sweater weather and how cute is this twist??? The sweater is literally twisted!!!
The Do The Twist Top from Trish Newbery is a dead ringer for the inspo piece.
To get the look
- I added 2″ to both center fronts and hemmed them in opposite directions with soft stretch hem tape, to get that clean edge. I also used the tape on all the other hems.
- Used only one layer of fabric; with the waffle knit it was way too bulky with the 2 layers the pattern calls for.
- I widen and lengthen the sleeves to make them less fitted.
Fabric
I used the Mauve Waffle Knit which made it extra cozy. It was so hard to take off, It felt like I was wrapped in a blanket…a very stylish blanket.
Floral Jacket
Listen, I love anything with a flare and that little detail in this jacket definitely caught my eye.
Using the Evergreen Jacket from Hey June was a bit scary because, I don’t ever recall making a jacket and adding a flare made me even more anxious.
To get the look
- I didn’t use any of the bands or the pockets. I might throw the pockets in later, because…I love pockets.
- I also lengthen all the pieces about 5″ except for the yoke and collar.
- Hemmed the front of jacket before moving on to the flare.
For the flared back, I created a half peplum.
- Only on the back piece of the jacket I measured down from the each armpit to where I wanted to start the flare on both sides. Drew a line across the back, from one side seam to the other.
- Measured across the back piece and divided that measurement in half to get the width.
- Measured down from where my flared started to the hem, to get my length.
- Using the width by the length to create a rectangle, then dividing it into 4.
- Cut right to the edge but not through. Spreading 4″ apart.
- Cut out on the fold of the fabric.
- Sewed the piece right sides together upside down on the back at the point where I wanted the flare to start.
- Flipped the piece down, sandwiching it in between the back and the front pieces at side seams, aligning raw edges.
Fabric
Techno Scuba in Flame in Gold was perfect for the jacket. It’s light weight with a luxurious feel. I really can’t get over how gorgeous it is!
I absolutely love this scuba and need it in every color!
This jacket is my FAVORITE!!!!!!!!!
