I purchased the Fairy Jacket pattern a while ago with no real intention on making it (Ellie and Mac’s Wacky Wednesday sale) it was a $1. I think it’s cute but have had rtw cardigans like it and really don’t like how they fit in the chest area. I also had this hacci sweater knit from Girl Charlee (black friday sale), I got for my daughter to make her a cardigan. Once it came I decided to keep it for myself 😉.
I wanted another cardigan and paired the two together. I was terrified I wasn’t going to like it and would end up giving it away or it sit in my closet. So glad I went out on a limb here. I also added a tie to pull in the waist to give me some shape. The tie is 60″ by 2″, sewn with a 1/4″ seam allowance.
I didn’t want loops for the tie, instead I made buttonholes on each side of the side seams. Buttonholes I can do, now adding buttons and having everything line up is a different story.
The fabric kept snagging when I would try to slide it under the presser foot. I taped some tracing paper surrounding the feed dog to help it slide under the foot.
To finish off my cardi/jacket I rolled hemmed the entire outer edge of the jacket with my serger! First time rolling a hem! Now I am thinking about what else I can apply that to 🤔.
This was fast to cut and sew together. So happy how this turned out!
