Little Girl’s Christmas Dress and Skirt~DIY

Happy Holidays!

Of course I made my girls outfits to wear to church the Sunday before Christmas. I decided to go with patterns from Ellie and Mac; Be Curious Dress and The Party Skirt.

Both are to be made with woven fabric preferably cotton. I came across a beautiful pink and navy blue plaid rayon in the juvenile section at Joanns. Sorry, I forget how much I spent on it but I’m sure it was on saleπŸ˜†.

I’ll start with the Be Curious Dress.

This was not a quick sew with set in sleeves, lining, snaps and ruffles; it was more intensive than the knit garments I’ve been making lately.

The pattern comes with sizes 12mo.-12 years. I cut a 6 for my oldest. To me it fit a little big but when it was time for her to wear it to church it seemed to fit better πŸ€·πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ.

I liked the elastic casing on the sleeves. I didn’t see it in the directions, so I just used the smallest elastic I had and made a casing on the hem of the sleeves.

I added snaps instead of buttons. I do have a fear of button holes, they seem to not turn out the way I want. I was going to try it, but when the time came I didn’t feel like dealing with the stress.

I sewed on a navy blue hair bow to give it a little something more.

I do plan on making this dress again when the weather is warm and in a cotton… I wanna see it really pop.

Party Skirt

This one has instructions with measurements to draft different size rectangles. No actual pattern to print and tape together. I thought it was going to be a but much but honestly it wasn’t too bad.

It comes with sizes 6mo.-12years. I cut a size 3T for my youngest. I could have sized up on this one.

I used a navy broadcloth for the underskirt. I love the layers and sash. I should of add interfacing in the sash, it would have given the bow more structure. I swear you have to have some type of Phd to tie a bow, mines always looks rough lol.

It has a half double elastic waistband in the back and the front is flat. I also really like that.

I do plan on making the skirt again as well. This one was fun!

Happy Creating!
