Hope you all are well out there. With everything that is going on, I haven’t had much energy to sew, however I’m trying to push through… how about ya’ll? I wanted to lift my spirits a little by making spring mommy and me outfits.
I used a stretch eyelet, didn’t know that was a thing?! I’m glad it is because I adore it. It holds up like a woven and has a good bit of horizontal stretch like a knit. Great for patterns that call for a woven fabric.

This lovely fabric is from Mily Mae, It captures the spring season so well and so light and airy. I was going to use it for my girl’s Easter dresses but with things up in arms, that is not going to happen. So, I decided on the causal look of paper bag style pants and skirt. I used the youth Paper Bag Pants and the Paper Bag Skirt patterns from both Ellie and Mac.
Youth Paper Bag Pants

It’s intended for wovens and some knits.
Sizes NB-14
There is also an adult version using stable knits.
Changes
- I sized down but kept the leg length, ie… My daughter wears a size 6, so I cut a size 5 and only cut at the size 6 mark on the hem (Hope that makes sense). I wanted a slimmer look and not a huge paper bag effect at the waist.
- I ruched the sides of the pants at the bottom in the side seam. I marked how far I wanted them to scrunch up, cut my elastic half of that measurement plus half an inch. Here is a good video tutorial on how to ruch with elastic from Sew Greek Mama.

Paper Bag Skirt

- Sizes XXS-5XL
Changes
- I cut the height of waist down by 1″
- I didn’t turn up the hem (gotta love knits)

(Mid-Thigh Length)
Even though we may not be able to get good use out of our outfits now, we definitely can in the heat of the summer.
